Travellers to the Sunshine Coast will first make their way to Vancouver, then to the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal (40 minutes from downtown by car or public transit), where you’ll board a ferry to Langdale. (Schedules can be found on the BC Ferries website.)
From Langdale, the last leg of the journey requires private transportation. If you are not driving, the Symposium will offer bus transportation which will connect only with the ferries leaving Horseshoe Bay at 11:20am and 1:20pm on Monday, October 17th. If you wish to take advantage of this, we strongly urge you to plan to arrive in Vancouver on the previous day to allow sufficient time to get to the ferry terminal. You must be at the Horseshoe Bay terminal 30 minutes ahead of the sailing time.
Closer to the event, we’ll provide more detailed information to help you get from the airport to downtown Vancouver and then to Horseshoe Bay by using public transit.
If you are flying out of Vancouver International Airport on your day of departure, remember to allow sufficient time on your return journey to arrive at the airport two hours before your departure time. You must leave the Painted Boat two hours before the ferry departs from Langdale—we will provide bus transportation to connect with the 10:20 am and 12:20 pm ferries on Sunday, October 23. The sailing from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay takes 40 minutes (the ferry occasionally experiences delays); allow at least one hour to drive from the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal to the airport; one-and-a-half hours if taking public transit.
If you would like to take in an aerial view of our spectacular scenery, consider booking a flight between the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and the Painted Boat. The plane will hold five passengers comfortably, with limited luggage, or four passengers if you’re carrying a lot of bags. The cost of a flight is $1,010.60 Cdn. A flight between YVR and Sechelt will cost $635.60.
